Book the French-speaking guide early. French-speaking guides in Varanasi are limited, especially from October to March. I recommend sharing your dates well in advance so availability can be confirmed before your booking is finalised.
Plan for early mornings. The Ganga boat ride starts around sunrise, often close to 5:00 AM depending on the season. Winter mornings can be cold near the river, so carry a light jacket or shawl.
Expect walking in the old city. Vehicles cannot enter many lanes around Kashi Vishwanath Temple and the ghats. Comfortable walking shoes are useful, and short distances can take longer because of crowds.
Respect Manikarnika Ghat. It is an active cremation ground, not a normal sightseeing stop. Do not photograph cremation ceremonies or mourners, and follow the guide's instructions when passing through the area.
Keep Sarnath flexible. Sarnath is around 10 km from central Varanasi, but traffic can make the drive longer than expected. I keep extra time in the schedule so the Dhamek Stupa and archaeological area are not rushed.

Founder & Pilgrimage Travel Expert
Uttar Pradesh, India
Amit Kumar Deshwal was born in Uttar Pradesh, and the pilgrimage circuit he now plans for a living is the one he grew up around. What began as showing visitors the temples he already knew has become a full travel operation — but the working knowledge underneath it is still first-hand.
More than 15,000 guests have travelled with him. Families, elderly parents, first-time visitors and large temple groups — enough of them, over enough years, that very little surprises him now. He knows which darshan queue is worth joining at seven in the morning, which one is not, and what to do when a temple changes its timings on a festival day without telling anyone.
His ground is Ayodhya and Varanasi, extending west into the Braj circuit of Mathura, Vrindavan and Agra. That range matters more than it sounds: it is the difference between handing a guest an itinerary and being able to say, from having stood there, how long the walk actually takes.
The reason Ayodhya Varanasi Guides exists is a frustration he heard from guests over and over — a different agent for the cab, another for the hotel, a third for the guide, and nobody accountable when a darshan slot fell through. His answer was to put all of it in one place, under one number, with the pricing written down before anyone travels.
Every itinerary on this site is planned or reviewed by Amit and his team, and corrected whenever conditions on the ground change.

Yes, a French-speaking guide is arranged for the scheduled sightseeing, subject to availability on your selected travel dates. Early booking is recommended, especially during the October-to-March season.
The itinerary includes Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Kal Bhairav Temple and Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple, along with other important areas of Varanasi.

The Sarnath sightseeing includes Dhamek Stupa, the Sarnath Archaeological Site and Mulagandha Kuti Vihara, with explanations of the area's Buddhist history.
Yes, the area around Manikarnika Ghat is covered as part of the old-city sightseeing. It is an active cremation ground, so visitors must maintain complete respect and avoid photographing ceremonies or mourners.
October to March is generally the most comfortable period for sightseeing, early morning boat rides and walking around the ghats. Festival periods can be considerably more crowded.
Yes, the itinerary includes rest periods and private transfers, but some walking is unavoidable around temples and the old city. Comfortable footwear and a manageable sightseeing pace are recommended.
Pickup and drop from Varanasi Airport or Railway Station can be arranged according to your confirmed itinerary and arrival or departure details.
Meal inclusions depend on the selected package and hotel plan. Breakfast can be included with the accommodation, while lunch and dinner may be arranged separately according to your preference.
VIP darshan, special puja, temple donations and optional paid rituals are not included unless specifically mentioned in the booking. They can be arranged separately where available.
Flights and train tickets to and from Varanasi are not included in the standard package. They can be arranged separately if required.
Booking several days or weeks in advance is recommended, particularly from October to March, because French-speaking guide availability can be limited during the busy season.
Yes, the itinerary can be adjusted according to your arrival and departure times, hotel category, group size and sightseeing preferences, subject to temple timings and guide availability.
Photography is generally possible at many ghats, but cremation ceremonies and mourners at Manikarnika Ghat should not be photographed. Temple and monument photography rules should also be followed.
Some walking is required around Kashi Vishwanath Temple, the old city and the ghats because vehicles cannot enter many narrow lanes. The guide can help manage the route according to your walking comfort.
Modest clothing covering the shoulders and knees is recommended. Comfortable slip-on footwear is useful because shoes must be removed at several religious sites.

Package Overview
Many French and Belgian travellers arrive in Varanasi with a good idea of what they want to see: Kashi Vishwanath Temple, the Ganga Ghats, the sunrise boat ride and Sarnath. What they often do not expect is how much of Varanasi happens in between those places. The old city is crowded, the lanes around the temples are narrow, and religious customs are not always easy to understand from a guidebook. I have found that having French explanations at the right moment makes the experience much easier to follow.
At Ayodhya Varanasi Guide, I have planned this Varanasi Tour for French and Belgian Travellers around the places that first-time international visitors usually have the most questions about. The tour includes Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Kal Bhairav Temple, Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple and the major ghats, along with an early morning Ganga boat ride. You also experience the Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat, where the French-speaking guide explains the rituals and their significance. A separate day is reserved for Sarnath, Dhamek Stupa and the archaeological area, allowing enough time to understand the Buddhist history of the site.
I keep the itinerary deliberately practical. Temple visits are planned around their operating hours, while the hottest part of the day is kept for lunch and rest rather than continuous sightseeing. This matters in Varanasi because even short distances can take time when traffic stops the vehicle and you have to continue on foot through the old lanes. The tour also leaves enough room for questions, which is particularly useful when you are seeing Hindu rituals and customs for the first time.
About the French-speaking guide, honestly: availability is limited, especially from October to March when international visitors are more numerous. French-speaking travellers from both France and Belgium can request the service, but I recommend sharing your dates well in advance so I can check availability before confirmation. If a French-speaking guide cannot be secured for your dates, Ayodhya Varanasi Guide will tell you before the booking is finalised rather than quietly replacing the service with an English-speaking guide.

Travel Plan
Most French and Belgian travellers arrive expecting the Ganga Aarti to be the first major experience, so I keep the first evening simple rather than adding too much sightseeing after arrival. After pickup from Varanasi Airport or Railway Station, we check in and have lunch or some rest depending on your arrival time. In the evening, we leave for Dashashwamedh Ghat with enough time to manage the crowds and walking near the river. We attend the Ganga Aarti, while the French-speaking guide explains the sequence and meaning of the ritual in French. After the ceremony, we return to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay in Varanasi.
I start this day before sunrise because the riverfront is calmer and the morning light makes it easier to understand how daily life begins along the ghats. Around 5:00 AM, we take a Ganga boat ride passing Assi Ghat, Dashashwamedh Ghat, Man Mandir Ghat and the area around Manikarnika Ghat. After breakfast, we visit Kashi Vishwanath Temple for morning darshan and then Kal Bhairav Temple. I keep the hottest midday hours for lunch and rest because the old-city lanes involve walking and can become very crowded. In the afternoon, we visit Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple and explore selected old-city areas. Dinner and overnight stay are in Varanasi.
After breakfast, we drive to Sarnath, around 10 km from central Varanasi. I keep Sarnath as a separate day because rushing through the Buddhist monuments after temple sightseeing does not leave enough time to understand the site's history. With the French-speaking guide, we visit Dhamek Stupa, the Sarnath Archaeological Site and Mulagandha Kuti Vihara. The guide explains the connection of Sarnath with Buddha and the development of Buddhist traditions in French. After lunch, we return to Varanasi and leave the evening free for rest or optional local shopping. Dinner and overnight stay are at the hotel in Varanasi.
After breakfast, we check out and spend the morning exploring selected parts of Varanasi's old city. We visit the area around Manikarnika Ghat from a respectful viewing point, and I explain beforehand that it is an active cremation ground where photography of ceremonies and mourners is not appropriate. We continue through the narrow lanes around Kashi, where vehicles cannot enter many sections, so some walking is unavoidable. After lunch, we transfer you to Varanasi Airport or Railway Station according to your departure time. I keep the final schedule flexible because Varanasi traffic can delay even short transfers, especially around the old city.
