Founder & Pilgrimage Travel Expert
Uttar Pradesh, India
Amit Kumar Deshwal was born in Uttar Pradesh, and the pilgrimage circuit he now plans for a living is the one he grew up around. What began as showing visitors the temples he already knew has become a full travel operation — but the working knowledge underneath it is still first-hand.
More than 15,000 guests have travelled with him. Families, elderly parents, first-time visitors and large temple groups — enough of them, over enough years, that very little surprises him now. He knows which darshan queue is worth joining at seven in the morning, which one is not, and what to do when a temple changes its timings on a festival day without telling anyone.
His ground is Ayodhya and Varanasi, extending west into the Braj circuit of Mathura, Vrindavan and Agra. That range matters more than it sounds: it is the difference between handing a guest an itinerary and being able to say, from having stood there, how long the walk actually takes.
The reason Ayodhya Varanasi Guides exists is a frustration he heard from guests over and over — a different agent for the cab, another for the hotel, a third for the guide, and nobody accountable when a darshan slot fell through. His answer was to put all of it in one place, under one number, with the pricing written down before anyone travels.
Every itinerary on this site is planned or reviewed by Amit and his team, and corrected whenever conditions on the ground change.

Reaching Ayodhya first and returning from Varanasi is the smartest routing for Chennai pilgrims, because the Varanasi–Chennai sector has strong direct connectivity while Chennai–Ayodhya flights are mostly connecting and can take 10 hours or more. The practical approach is to fly Chennai to Lucknow direct, then cover the remaining 135 km to Ayodhya by road in about 2 hours 30 minutes on the excellent expressway. Direct flights to Ayodhya's Maharishi Valmiki International Airport are also available on select days and we plan around whichever suits your dates.
Route Option | Travel Time | Best For |
|---|---|---|
Chennai → Lucknow direct, then road to Ayodhya | ~2 hr 45 min flight + 2.5 hr drive | Most reliable, recommended |
Chennai → Ayodhya (select days) | ~2.5 hrs direct where available | Fastest when scheduled |
Chennai → Ayodhya connecting | 10 hrs+ | Avoid unless fare-driven |
Return: Varanasi → Chennai direct | ~2 hr 10 min | Recommended return leg |
Chennai to Varanasi is served by more than 30 daily departures across direct and connecting options, which is why we always plan the return from Varanasi. We arrange complimentary pickup from Lucknow or Ayodhya airport on arrival and drop at Varanasi airport on departure.
In short: Fly Chennai to Lucknow and drive 2.5 hours to Ayodhya, complete the yatra one-directionally, and return on the direct Varanasi–Chennai flight. Book about 6 weeks ahead for the best fares.
This 4 days and 3 nights itinerary begins at Lord Ram's birthplace and ends in the eternal city of Shiva, moving in one direction so you never repeat a road. It is paced comfortably for families and elderly parents, with darshan timed to avoid peak crowds.
Day | Location | Key Experiences | Overnight |
|---|---|---|---|
Day 1 | Chennai → Ayodhya | Arrival, Hanuman Garhi, Saryu Aarti | Ayodhya |
Day 2 | Ayodhya | Ram Mandir darshan, Kanak Bhawan, temple circuit | Ayodhya |
Day 3 | Ayodhya → Varanasi | Kashi Vishwanath, Ganga Aarti | Varanasi |
Day 4 | Varanasi → Departure | Sunrise boat ride, Sarnath, airport drop | — |
In short: A one-directional 4-day yatra starting at Ayodhya and ending at Varanasi, structured around Chennai's flight connectivity with no backtracking.

Travel Plan
Your yatra begins with a morning flight from Chennai, landing at Lucknow, where our representative meets you for a comfortable AC transfer covering the 135 km to Ayodhya in about two and a half hours on the expressway. After checking into your hotel near the temple and freshening up, you begin your darshan at Hanuman Garhi, following the tradition that devotees should seek Hanuman's blessings before approaching Ram Lalla. As evening falls, you reach Ram Ki Paidi on the banks of the Saryu for the Saryu Aarti, where rows of diyas light the ghats and the chanting carries across the water. Overnight stay in Ayodhya.
Pickup from Ayodhya Airport / Railway Station and hotel check-in.
Visit Shri Ram Janmabhoomi (Ram Mandir), Hanuman Garhi and Kanak Bhawan.
Lunch break (own expense).
Visit Dashrath Mahal, Nageshwarnath Temple and Ram Ki Paidi.
Witness the divine Saryu Aarti.
Overnight stay in Ayodhya.
The day starts early, because the morning hours bring the calmest darshan at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir. You proceed for the Sugam Darshan of Ram Lalla, standing before the deity in the magnificent new temple — the moment most pilgrims describe as the heart of the entire journey. The rest of the morning covers Kanak Bhawan, the golden palace temple gifted to Sita, followed by Dashrath Mahal and Sita Ki Rasoi, all within comfortable walking distance of each other. The afternoon takes you to Nageshwarnath Temple and Guptar Ghat, with your guide sharing the story behind each site. Overnight stay in Ayodhya.
Day 2 summary: Early morning Ram Lalla Sugam Darshan at Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir, followed by Kanak Bhawan, Dashrath Mahal, Sita Ki Rasoi, Nageshwarnath Temple and Guptar Ghat.
After an early breakfast, you depart for Varanasi, a drive of approximately 200 km taking 4 to 5 hours by private AC cab. On arrival, you check into your hotel near the ghats and proceed for darshan at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple through the grand Kashi Vishwanath Dham corridor — the 12th Jyotirlinga and the spiritual centre of Kashi. The tour continues to Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple and Annapurna Devi Mandir. As the sun sets, you take your place for the world-famous Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat, which is best experienced from a private boat on the river rather than the crowded steps. Overnight stay in Varanasi.
Day 3 summary: Drive from Ayodhya to Varanasi, Kashi Vishwanath corridor darshan, Sankat Mochan and Annapurna Devi temples, and the iconic Ganga Aarti from a private boat.
Your day begins before dawn with the most memorable experience of Kashi — a sunrise boat ride on the Ganga, gliding past the 84 sacred ghats as the city wakes to temple bells and prayers. You witness the morning rituals at Assi Ghat and the eternal flames of Manikarnika Ghat from the water. After breakfast, an optional visit to Sarnath, just 10 km away, takes you to the Dhamek Stupa where Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon.
Day 4 summary: Sunrise Ganga boat ride across the 84 ghats, Assi Ghat and Manikarnika darshan, an optional Sarnath visit.
Your final morning in Kashi is relaxed and unhurried. You begin with Subah-e-Banaras at Assi Ghat, the sunrise ritual of Vedic chanting, yoga and classical music that welcomes the day on the riverfront. After breakfast, you visit the New Vishwanath Temple inside the peaceful BHU campus, followed by Tulsi Manas Mandir where the Ramcharitmanas was composed, and the striking red Durga Temple at Durga Kund. If time permits, we stop at a genuine Banarasi silk weaving unit where you can see the handloom work up close and pick up an authentic saree directly from the weavers. You are then transferred to Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport for your direct return flight to Chennai, carrying the blessings of Ram and Shiva.
Day 5 summary: A gentle final morning with Subah-e-Banaras at Assi Ghat, New Vishwanath Temple at BHU, Tulsi Manas Mandir and Durga Temple, an optional Banarasi silk visit, and a comfortable transfer to Varanasi airport for the direct flight to Chennai.
