Best time to visit. October to March is the most comfortable period for Varanasi and Sarnath, especially for early morning boat rides and walking around the ghats. May and June can be extremely hot, with daytime temperatures often rising above 40°C.
Book the French-speaking guide early. French-speaking guides are limited in Varanasi, particularly during the October-to-March season. Share your travel dates early so availability can be checked before the booking is confirmed.
Dress appropriately for temples. Keep your shoulders and knees covered when visiting temples. Comfortable slip-on footwear is useful because shoes must be removed at several religious sites.
Expect some walking. Vehicles cannot enter many narrow lanes around Kashi Vishwanath Temple and the old city. Comfortable shoes are recommended, especially for senior travellers.
Respect photography restrictions. Photography is generally possible at many tourist areas, but avoid photographing cremation rituals or mourners at Manikarnika Ghat. At temples and religious sites, follow the instructions of the local staff and guide.

Travel together to Ayodhya and Varanasi — special rates, priority darshan & dedicated support for groups of 10 or more pilgrims.

Founder & Pilgrimage Travel Expert
Uttar Pradesh, India
Amit Kumar Deshwal was born in Uttar Pradesh, and the pilgrimage circuit he now plans for a living is the one he grew up around. What began as showing visitors the temples he already knew has become a full travel operation — but the working knowledge underneath it is still first-hand.
More than 15,000 guests have travelled with him. Families, elderly parents, first-time visitors and large temple groups — enough of them, over enough years, that very little surprises him now. He knows which darshan queue is worth joining at seven in the morning, which one is not, and what to do when a temple changes its timings on a festival day without telling anyone.
His ground is Ayodhya and Varanasi, extending west into the Braj circuit of Mathura, Vrindavan and Agra. That range matters more than it sounds: it is the difference between handing a guest an itinerary and being able to say, from having stood there, how long the walk actually takes.
The reason Ayodhya Varanasi Guides exists is a frustration he heard from guests over and over — a different agent for the cab, another for the hotel, a third for the guide, and nobody accountable when a darshan slot fell through. His answer was to put all of it in one place, under one number, with the pricing written down before anyone travels.
Every itinerary on this site is planned or reviewed by Amit and his team, and corrected whenever conditions on the ground change.

Boat rides generally operate across the travel season, but services can be affected by weather, river conditions, safety restrictions or local regulations. The timing may therefore be adjusted when required.

Package Overview
Most French-speaking travellers arrive in Varanasi having already read about Kashi Vishwanath Temple, watched videos of the Ganga Aarti and seen photographs of the ghats. Yet, once they enter the old city, many realise that knowing about Varanasi and understanding Varanasi are two different things. The narrow lanes, temple rituals, local customs and constant activity can be difficult to follow when there is a language barrier. I have seen this many times while guiding travellers, which is why a French-speaking guide can make a real difference here.
At Ayodhya Varanasi Guide, I have planned this 3 Days Varanasi Sarnath Tour with French Guide around both the religious and historical sides of the region. The Varanasi sightseeing includes Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Kal Bhairav Temple, Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple and Assi Ghat, along with an early morning Ganga boat ride. In the evening, you attend the Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat, where the guide can explain the rituals and their significance in French. The following sightseeing takes you to Sarnath, Dhamek Stupa and the archaeological area, giving you a different perspective on the history of the region and its connection with Buddhism.
The itinerary is kept practical rather than filling every hour with sightseeing. Mornings are used for temple visits and the Ganga because the weather is more comfortable, while the hotter midday period is kept for breakfast, lunch and rest. This also helps when travelling with older family members, as the old city involves walking through crowded and narrow lanes where vehicles cannot go. Sarnath is planned separately so you have enough time to understand the site instead of treating it as a quick photo stop.
About the guide, honestly: French-speaking guides in Varanasi are limited, particularly during the October-to-March travel season. I recommend sharing your travel dates early so availability can be checked before the booking is confirmed. If a suitable French-speaking guide cannot be arranged for your dates, Ayodhya Varanasi Guide will inform you before confirmation rather than quietly replacing the service with an English-speaking guide. This is especially important for travellers who are choosing the package specifically because they want the history, rituals and local explanations in French.

Travel Plan
Most travellers ask me to start with Kashi Vishwanath after arrival, but I usually keep the first day lighter so you can settle in properly. After pickup from Varanasi Airport or Railway Station, we check in at the hotel and have lunch. Around 2:00 PM, we leave for Sarnath, about 10 km from central Varanasi. We visit Dhamek Stupa, the Sarnath Archaeological Site and Mulagandha Kuti Vihara, while the French-speaking guide explains the Buddhist history and local significance in French. We return to Varanasi before evening. Dinner and overnight stay are at the hotel in Varanasi.
I start this day before sunrise because the ghats are easier to experience before the heat and crowds increase. Around 5:00 AM, we take an early morning Ganga boat ride, passing Dashashwamedh Ghat, Assi Ghat and other important riverfront areas. After breakfast, we proceed to Kashi Vishwanath Temple for morning darshan, followed by Kal Bhairav Temple. I keep the midday hours for lunch and rest because the old-city lanes become crowded and walking can be tiring. In the afternoon, we visit Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple. Around the evening aarti time, we attend the Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat. Dinner and overnight stay are in Varanasi.
After breakfast, we explore selected parts of the old city and visit Manikarnika Ghat from a respectful viewing point. I always explain beforehand that this is an active cremation ghat, so photography of cremation ceremonies and mourners is not appropriate. We continue through the narrow lanes around Kashi, where vehicles cannot enter many sections and some walking is unavoidable. After returning to the hotel, you check out and have lunch. If your departure is later, we can add a nearby attraction depending on your train or flight timing. We then transfer you to Varanasi Airport or Railway Station for your onward journey.
